Free Compost!

Loading Compost

NOTE: As of Saturday, June 15, the Rancho Las Virgenes Composting Facility will be out of compost and will be inoperative for the remainder of the year as we work to repair damage from the Woolsey Fire and make additional improvements. Once the facility has returned to operation, we will announce the availability of the free compost.

Triunfo Sanitation District offers high-quality compost through its partnership with Las Virgenes Municipal Water District. The material is made with recycled organic biosolids and is produced at the Rancho Las Virgenes Composting Facility at 3700 Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas. It is available free of charge for self-loading on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Bring your own sealable container(s) such as a plastic storage bin with a lid or sturdy plastic bags. If you're loading a pickup truck or trailer, you must have a cover to secure the load in place. Individuals are responsible for loading their own containers.

The nutrient-rich compost is an effective soil amendment for lawns, flowerbeds, and gardens. The compost has earned the coveted “Class A – Exceptional Quality” designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This rating means that the compost has "unrestricted use" for flower, lawn, or vegetable gardens. Its excellent organic soil conditioning properties aid water retention in light soils, and it helps to break up and aerate heavier soils, so less watering is needed.
